Bleeding -with update

**Warning - mention of underwear follows.

Needed: stories of bleeding that have happy endings.
The scoop: sleep with nightmares, lying in feverishly till noon.
Moved from bed to couch ( pretty tired!) blissful with cat on chest. Need to pee. Faced with blood in aforenamed unmentionables. About Clementine sized. Medium dark. Upon wiping some more then none.
Action: sobbing to S, lying down, calling on call doc who tells me to decrease my activity (lying in bed squared?). Says it's normal and to call back if full fledged period like bleeding comences.
Thoughts: I shouldn't have been so calm and zen about it all, I shouldn't have lifted that case of catfood at Sams club ( about 10 pounds ) If I miscarry my life is over. Those kind of things.
Conclusion: I know you've all been through much worse. There is no self fulfilling doom and gloom philosophy saved for me just because it's my first time being anywhere near pregnant.
Plea: please send hope.

gratefully, your humble TGLxo

PS - Thanks for all the comments and encouragement - I know I can rely on all of you to be way more helpful than my doctor's answering service.(((()))) By the way - it's red blood now - only when I wipe though. I think I remember reading that dark brown was better than red. Sorry to be so graphic for those few readers who are squeamish.

  1. Claire: I bled the first 8 weeks with my twins. So much so that I could have tried out for the, " I didn't know I was pregnant" show because twice it was as heavy as a period. My RE said if is very common with multiples and also with IVF. The bleeding stopped around 8 weeks and the twins are fine. I just took it easy. I'm thinking you might want that u/s sooner than later. Best wishes and hope this helps.

  2. Sweetie, I swear, all my friends who had two embryo implanting had bleeding, it's totally common, when I was bleeding I knew inside it was not normal and something was wrong, totally different type of bleeding. Do not start thinking that you had done something to cause the bleeding, your endometrium is just so thick it's extremely common to have sporadic bleeds. Be strong my friend, when are you going in for your u/s? can you not just go in and you'll put your mind at ease?
Sending you love and reassuring thoughts. Fran

  3. I had bleeding during early pregnancy for both my boys. Bleeding is more common when using ART. It is probably not related to anything you did (ie excessive acitvity). If it is really causing you a lot of stress, you should request an earlier ultrasound. I hope this all works out with a happy ending.

  8. You did NOT cause this by lifting ten pounds. Lifting up to twenty is totally acceptable.

  9. Had some bleeding at around 9 weeks.
    Dark should be good.
Sending all the hope there is!

  11. I am so sorry you are going through this. I have no good information to share that the other ladies haven't already said, better. I CAN address that you are not over-reacting. Bleeding is scary, for anyone. I like the idea of the early u/s just to put your mind at ease. I am sending you strength and hope that all is well.

  12. Bleeding is fucking terrifying. I'm so sorry you were faced with it today. Hang on tight. I really think you've got some twins burying in for the long haul.

    Love and hugs!

  14. I had bleeding off and on thru about 20 weeks with Farty. It scared the hell out of me every time. In the early weeks I had several u/s and they showed a small collection of blood behind the placenta that reabsorbed all on its own, but did cause some bleeding. I also had some bladder/kidney infections that led to some bleeding. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and I second the earlier u/s suggestions.

  15. Oh, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, but it's so common. I bled SO heavily at 7.5weeks, in a 15 minute span, it was enough to soak 5 pads and then I passed a big clot - all bright red. I was convinced at my emergency ultrasound the next morning that my uterus would be completely empty. But, lo and behold, everything was FINE and intact (and baby is still doing great). They couldn't find any immediate cause for the bleeding, but reminded me - as many of your previous commenters have said - that bleeding is much more common after IVF and with multiples. Your uterus and cervix have so much excess blood pumping to them, that it doesn't take a heck of alot to cause what seems like an alarming amount of bleeding. For days after I spotted red and it eventually turned brown. And I haven't spotted even a speck since them.

Are you going in for an u/s tomorrow or Monday for peace of mind? I hope so, because though I know our stories will help, nothing will make you feel better than seeing for yourself. Take care of yourself, take it easy!

  18. Well, I was just coming on to offer a virtual hand to hold, but after reading the comments you've already received, I'm feeling downright happy for you. Sounds like you've got a couple of embies setting up shop! I wish it didn't have to be so darn scary though. Hang in there. So many good wishes headed your way...

  19. My sister bled with her now 3 year old twins for up until the end of her second trimester. Dark red, bright red. . . a rainbow of red.

Still I am sending you a boat load of sticky sticky baby dust and prayers for you and the little bean(s).

  21. I don't have much to add in the advice category. Even though you know how common bleeding is, I'm sure that doesn't make it any less terrifying. I'm sorry you're having to deal with the fear and stress. I hope the bleeding stops and those healthy babies keep growing.

    Thinking of you!

  26. I know you have already done the US and stuff, but I bled with my second - both bright red and brown... and clots... I was sure I miscarried (had one of those 3 months prior), but it was a subchronic hematoma - doc kept an eye on it (helloooooo extra ultrasounds) and it finally reabsorbed (or whatever the heck those things did).

Fingers crossed your bleeding stays gone!
